The Painting Workshop and its Location

Our painting workshop in South America takes place in Cartagena de Indias, one of the many safe locations in Colombia (if not the safest). It is legendary both for its history and its beauty. It has been immortalized on countless canvases, glorified in hundreds of books and had its every detail photographed a zillion times - and, as Colombia's most fascinating city, it deserves every one of these tributes. The walled old town of this fortified Spanish colonial port is a gem. It's packed with churches, monasteries, plazas, palaces and noble mansions with overhanging balconies and shady patios. It pays to just wander through the old town, but some of the highlights are the Palacio de la Inquisición; the colonial mansion Casa del Marqués de Valdehoyos; and the lovely old port of Cartagena on the Bahía de las Ánimas." (The Lonely Planet) Just two hours by plane from Miami, the city is surrounded by beaches, and is full of colors, history, sun, nightlife, salsa and merengue.

We will be staying in a picturesque colonial house located in the heart the Old City, at a walking distance from the squares of Santo Domingo and of San Pedro, renown for its churches and outdoor cafés. Our house has a living room, two jacuzzis, a kitchen, a dining room and several double bedrooms each one with its private bathroom. Meals will be provided at the lodge and will be a reflection of Colombian cuisine. There will be a trip to the nearby Islas del Rosario, a small untouched paradise of white beaches and coral reefs, just 40 minutes by speedboat, where we will spend one night in a nice hotel with comfortable cabañas and a restaurant.
